I would say that most of us are rapidly filling our social calendars with parties and events involving family and friends, and with the calendar filling comes the emptying of wallets as we buy gifts. Gift buying has to be one of the most stressful parts of Christmas, but I have an idea for you! This idea would work brilliantly for workplace Kris Kringle as well as for family who already have everything! In fact some of these could be used to inject a little humour too! How about an Oxfam Unwrapped gift?? Part of the problem with gifts is that we wind up with so much "stuff" and it rarely seems to get used. Often financial considerations mean that gift giving needs to be kept to a strict budget and quality is hard to come by. This is where I think the Oxfam Unwrapped gifts are a brilliant idea. I love this idea. I've thought about it in the past (and I know that I wouldn't mind being given a feel-good-gift like this), but I know certain adult (yes, adult) family members I have that would be personally insulted not to receive a gift that was for them.
The irony with these family members is that they are the ones who are really well-off financially, and anything you buy them, they don't end up using. So it feels like you've wasted your money when you could be putting it to good use. I tell you, their attitudes perplex me.
